Where are the acceptable pull points for the Hobie Tandem Islander?

I want to single handedly pull a TI (190 Lbs.) up on a dock ramp (that is inclined to within 3-4" above the water) with a winch or pulley rig into TI cradles that are mounted on the ramp.

Should I pull from where the AKA bars mount to the TI with a spreader bar or can I pull it from the single bow pull point (this point is too small to fit a rope of any size)?

I may also want to pull the TI sideways (along PVC rails that fully support the TI) on the dock so I assume that I can tie a rope sash harness and pulley system around the TI and space the harness ropes at about where the AKA bars attach to the Kayak.

I have yet to find a Hobie TI free body diagram that indicate forward and sideway pull points (like jack points on an automobile).

I just use a stainless steel snap-shackle which does fit the bow fitting, and tie the rope to the shackle. But you could hardly go wrong using the crossbar attachment points, which surely must be the strongest part of an Island.

For your application, and daily dragging it would be better to use the crossbars in each case. Avoid using the Akas, folded or otherwise.

You could loop equal lengths of soft rope, with clip ends to each crossbar mounting point. Then clip these to a shackle on your winch line.

The same 2 ropes could pull the boat from the side.

If it's a power winch, be real careful. It's just a plastic boat. :wink:
