Any thoughts on trailering an AI with the amas facing the forward position?

I am looking to haul two kayaks (AI and an outback) and would like them both on the bottom platform for loading/unloading ease. The problem I have is that my trailer is only 49" wide and the amas in the rear position stick out roughly 56"-58" wide. I'd like to keep the width as narrow as possible because of limited space. I've thought about a second platform, howver I would still require new cross braces on the trailer to fit the 58" wide amas...

Thanks to all

I have thought about the same issue. It does make the trailer longer because the the amas stick out forward of the boat. With single axle trailers you need to worry about weight distribution. Moving the boat, majority of the weight aft will make the trailer light on the front. It will bounce on the hitch.

You might try disconnecting the aft aka from the ama or the cross bar. That allows the ama to fold in more parallel. You can always remove the inboard ama on both boats for trailering.

I noticed that you name is VaBeach1, like Virginia Beach? Hobie has been trying to get me in starting up a Island Club in the area. It would be nice to know more island sailors in the area...

We always trailer assembled AI's with the ama forward as my trailer is flat (no cradles) but rugged to cushion the hulls. We also tie with a short light line the front padeye's together through the anchor shackle we have on the bow (used for our Sprayskirt front mount). This way the rear of the ama don't drag on the ground while wheeling them on a cart, like they do when folded back. Also, with the ama forward, it adds a little more weight to the front of my trailer which helps the ride.

I usually go out of Lynnhaven, but I do like to vary my trips just to keep it interesting like Back Bay and Grand View Island. Then there is the overnight camping trip along the Chesapeake...Let me know when you are going out...
