I have thought about the same issue. It does make the trailer longer because the the amas stick out forward of the boat. With single axle trailers you need to worry about weight distribution. Moving the boat, majority of the weight aft will make the trailer light on the front. It will bounce on the hitch.
You might try disconnecting the aft aka from the ama or the cross bar. That allows the ama to fold in more parallel. You can always remove the inboard ama on both boats for trailering.
