... anyone come up with a solution for mounting a cradle set onto round load bars - preferably without drilling through them ?

Are they round Yakima or 1" bars? If so, these little numbers work great:

I have the same question but for a Thule square bar - How do I mount trailer cradles for a TI on a roof rack crossbar. I've seent the Yakima Universal clamps but I haven't seen how thay are supposed to attach to the cradle. The images I've seen don't show how a U-bolt would attach to the clamp, nor do I see how a U-bolt will not damage the cradle.

The thing that really bothers me is the height of the TI trailer cradles. I bought 3 of them and can't imagine that they're supposed to sit on top of a rack's bar. The cradles are about 6" tall and 13" wide. That's a lot of leverage working against a clamp holding a little strip of plastic at the bottom of the dimples in the cradle. I'm wondering if I have the wrong cradles but haven't found any shorter alternate.

Does anyone have a photo showing these cradles on a crossbar with clamps?
