On Anzac Day we launched from the Shoal Bay ramp, and parking was virtually wide open, unlike the one next to the caravan park on the western side of Nelson Head Lighthouse Reserve, which was chock full of boat trailers. But I have only launched once there, and there are plenty of alternative sites.

So the next stage of the hoist construction has been completed.
I now have a Hobie Hover Island.

Now waiting to get the rest of the hardware delivered so that I can winch the platform and boat together and then secure them near the ceiling with the static lines (chains).

Lifted using the same 12v ATV winch used on the car.

The 4WD recovery D Shackle and snatch block will be replaced with appropriately sized ones when they arrive in the mail.

Tony and Slaughter, I'll start a new thread for discussions about the January meet up.

Stage 2 complete. :D

Discovered that the 12v winch draws such a high current when lifting anything heavier than the platform itself - more than the 28 amps my power supply will deliver - that the winch stops.

Partly this is because of the friction of all of the pulleys.

So I have now ordered a 300 / 600 Kg 240v winch.

Here's the video and close up photos follow.

Enough space to park the cars underneath.

Here you can see also the static lines (chains) for safe long term storage.

Finally, here you can see it can also be used to just hoist the TI itself. Useful to put or remove the cart from the scupper holes.

Wow, how impressive is that ! Personally, I've found that the quicker I can get down and onto the water, the more I enjoy the day. I try to pick up minutes each time by making the setup more streamline. Just having all my gear altogether in the one spot ready to chuck in the car, saves heaps. Your system looks as though you can easily do that. Nice work.

Stage 3 Complete.
New 240v winch installed.
Roll the TI onto the platform and lift the boat to remove the cart.

Then lower the boat onto the platform. Attach the winch cables to the platform and abracadabra up she goes.
Finally attach the static safety chains (just in case).

I forgot to mention I also made a lifting bar for the sling.
The hoist attaches to the centre of this bar to hoist the boat up onto the top of the car or as shown in the above photo susspend the boat in the garage to insert/remove the cart.
Image

The other function of the lifting bar is for it to be used to tie down the boat for transport. Hence the eye bolts on each end that can be used for tie down points.

So now I have the storage and car loading systems close to finished. As you'll see in the embedded video, the total time taken from storage to car top is under 8 minutes, so I'm quite happy. :D

And here's the reverse of the procedure.

Great little pet project. Got to love it when a plan comes together.

"Pet project!" Yes, it definitely is. Wow! Very impressive work, Ian.

I guess it illustrates to what lengths some people will go to get a TI on top of their vehicle. It keeps reminding me of why I have an AI (2), which I am able to trailer to all places I sail.
