I used to transport the AI with my Land Rover LR3 which had a rack and I mounted those J type cradles. That was doable, but difficult.

No more Land Rover, just the Audi A8, so what to do?

I bought some of those foam pads just to give it a try. I put them on the roof and an extra on the trunk. I just lift the bow onto the trunk pad, and then push the AI up the back of the Audi.

Worked like a charm! I will post pics next time I load her up. But it was FAR easier than the Land Rover with the J cradles. The AI just slid right up with ease. Then I just used those ratchet straps through my open doors and strapped the whole thing to the roof. Held better than on the Land Rover also. This is FAR a more convenient setup than before. I had no idea it would be so convenient. And, the AI seems to like being "cushioned" by the pads, and I spread out the load much better than the two J cradles.

If anyone is interested, I will post the brand, but it doesn't seem like it would matter much.
