We finally got our TI a couple of weeks ago and have decided to use my hubbies old Landcruiser to transport the TI on the roof racks. We didn't really want to use that as it costs so much to run and are broke now that we've splurged and bought the TI but it is so much fun!! :)
I was trying to include a photo of it on our car but I can't figure out how to do it, sorry.

Hai,
Congratulations on your soon-to-be Hobie Tandem Island owner status! It's great to hear you had an awesome test run on the Hyundai Tuscan. I understand your concern about transporting the TI without a trailer, especially given your steep driveway and limited space for trailer storage. Considering a trailer's additional cost and licensing requirements, it makes sense to explore alternative options.

Look at my earlier post about adding a hitch receiver, ( if you don’t already have one, they aren't expensive aftermarket).
Then add a t-bar to support the back of the kayak, also makes loading much easier.
Mainly for safety, the wind loads on the highway can actually rip your roof off, I have seen this happen.
Always tie the front with V ropes or straps, ( that’s where the danger lies). From side winds on the highway.
Now days I think they sell swing down hitch receiver t-bars, ( makes loading easier).
We car topped our TI’s all over the country, if I had to guess, over 100k miles, often with our camper in tow.
However I destroyed my back as I got too old, ( lol).
