TI Trailers... some ideas

I have lurked on this forum quite a bit, and have learned excellent things from you kind posters. Thought I'd contribute.

We have owned 2 TI's, a 2015 which we had to sell, and our current 2016. Both hibiscus (red).

I have remanufactured 2 trailers now. The first was a rather run down boat trailer that I had to cut the rusted back off of, weld in a cross bar, and install cradles. I learned from that design because it articulated or dropped at the landing when catch released and weight was balanced toward water.

The newest trailer is a modified 40X48" Chinese made Northern Tool trailer. I got it unassembled in 2 boxes, added a 3X3" 8' tongue extension, then installed 3 cradles. The donor trailer cost $275.00, to which I added 2 Hobie cradles and one of my own manufacture (fiberglass attached to aluminum angle).

I have the cradles mounted on an articulating frame that lowers the aft end of the TI towards the water on launching, and assists in loading from water.

Next launching I'll take some photo's of the newest trailer and post them.

I did a little AC welding (7018 stick) to tie everything together, but it was pretty easy.

I saw the discussion about adding bike racks to the mix, and that is going to be my first alteration. I plan to add a couple of rails that will allow 2 bikes to snug in on either side of the bow.

just some ideas if it might benefit anyone...

Here's some pics of my new setup. I looked for about 3 weeks on Craigslist for something that would accommodate my needs but to no avail. So I broke down and bought a new aluminum Continental trailer (model 1515). I couldn't be happier! I will eventually add a second tier for bike mounts and a case to store gear.

The setup looks great RNM... Can I ask, what was the size of you 'lettering'..??

As for posting pics, I have to agree it could be easier. Personally I use Tapatalk when wanting to post pics and that seems easier?

The trailer looks great! Maybe it's an optical illusion but your main hull looks like it has a curve to it. Bow looks like it's sticking up in the air. Careful with those cradles they tend to be fragile. They can also leave dents in the hull.

The length is 30" and maximum height is 3.25". Fits perfect! I did a lot of measuring first. I ordered online from http://www.letteringonthecheap.com/. Real simple to apply. No clear-coat or any protectant. Lettering is about 1 year old and still looks great.



Must be optical illusion, does look a bit high. I do have a bow support now. I haven't had any issues with the cradles, no cracks. I know some people have had issues in the past. Hobie says the boat can be stored on the cradles so I do. The span between cradles is 67" apart as per Hobies recommendations. I'm very happy with the setup. I can unfold the amas, back down a boat ramp and float the boat off, makes it easy. I also have a beach cart if I go that way. Eventually I'll put a second tier for bike rack system and a storage case for gear.

Yep, I just finished a bike rack project using unistrut. I was one of those people that had problems with the cradles after just 1 season, so I switched over to PVC bunks. I also added a tower and a winch. Makes getting the boat back on on a steep ramp much easier.

For an aluminum trailer you might consider the 80/20 aluminum extrusion system for accessory components. Sort of the aluminum version of Unistrut but a lot more flexible for building things.

stupid question, but I assume by the vimeo and youtube2 boxes that to include video it has to be from one of those sources, yes?

cause I took some iPhone video and did a quick edit and can include it here. It shows me loading my 2016 TI onto my customized trailer.

RobinNMaid,

You said you sold two 2015 TI and bought 2016. Is there any change in 2016 that made you sold the almost new TI?
Or you have a different reasons why you switched to 2016.

Fell on hard times and sold 2015 ti to stay solvent.

Bought 2016 ti as good therapy.
