Post subject:  Best Trailer for my AI?
:( Can't store boats/trailers outside in my neighborhood. Need a quality aluminum trailer that will collapse/disassemble quickly/easily and not take up a lot of room in my garage.

Is Rack and Roll the only choice I have. Would have bought one already if priced around $1,600, but when the trailer alone is $1,999, spare tire $189, spare tire holder $??, extended hitch $150... I decided to spend a little more time looking for alternatives.

I don't mind paying the price if the Rack and Roll trailer is the best and there is nothing else out there that is better for less money.

Any suggestions?

"Hobie" trailers have been mentioned in some posts, but I see nothing on their website about trailers. If they do make a trailer that accomodates the Island...and can be disassembled and stored in my garage, then I'd sure be interested in reading about it.

Page 17 of the "Hobie Kayak Catalog 2007-08" shows the trailer and other items, but no prices. The only thing there I want is the "hull cradle" custom designed to support the AI's hull and Amas (part # 72020400).
I'm still undecided about which trailer to buy.

I have the RacknRoll. Great little trailer. I bought mine online and delivered to SF area was less than $1600. No spare or extras. Can carry 3 Kayaks if I have to. Normally just an AI and an Adventure. I use everything I used when I cartoped the stuff. The place I ordered from was in NJ and they had a free shipping special. Very light and compact so shipping should not have been too much. At a gathering of AIs it was voted "sexiest" trailer. LOL

Polecat, those cradles for 1 AI are $220. Im trying to find a set to add to a Getaway trailer. They just bolt to a crossbar so could be added to any trailer or wood frame.

I bought a Rack and Roll trailer one week after purchasing a Sport and a Revolution. Great trailer. Does everything it says it will. I have had 4 kayaks on it.

I did not purchase a spare tire. The tires on the trailer are 16" motorcycle tires rated at 440# each. The trailer's GVW is 400#. I don't think I will have tire problems.

But for Murphy's Law protection, my solution was to buy just a tire only for $23. I wrapped it with shrink wrap. I take it with me only on long trips. I figure I can always get it mounted and air it. Finding a tire would be hard.

They are pricey but I didn't want to buy one to save $400 and be sorry.

I'm reconsidering purchasing a Rack and Roll trailer despite the absurdly high cost of $2000 :evil: ! Wcvette - if you don't mind revealing the NJ website it would be greatly appreciated.
Is the Rack and Roll trailer really as good as they brag? The wheels and suspension "appears" to be exceptional. And the fact that the trailer can be collapsed and stowed is a huge plus.

I found it to be as good as advertised.
I think once you see it you can see where the value is in materials, construction and engineering.
