that sounds very interesting. Are you planning to start from Flamingo or Everglade city? Are you planning on camping?

We are leaving from Flamingo at 9:30 am, Fri, Mar 13. It is about 11 mi west to East Cape Sable where we will be camping until our return on Sunday, Mar 15.

Generally I would be soooo in, but I need to see how it works out with my job. I have to fly to LAS for a conference on Monday and I still have to do some prep work for that. Maybe I can join and go back on Saturday. I hope the eastern wind doesn't make too much tacking necessary.

I will let you know as soon as I know more.

BTW: you can also reach me at...
"torsten"
"@"
"norikkon.com" (sorry for the funky writing, but I don't want any internet spiders to pick up my email and then send me offers for viagra or fake watches;) )

Thanks so much for keeping me in the loop. I'm very much looking forward to meet you guys soon!!!

Cheers
Torsten

Hey Miami AI hope you can make it. but if you tack into an east wind you won't find East Cape Sable. Don't let the name fool you it is west of Flamingo.

Any newbie who goes with me to ECS is told "The wind either blows East to West or West to East along this coast line." So, you tack into the wind one way or the other.

In the winter (we are pretty much done w/ that for this season), when a cold front comes through you can have the winds against you going and coming. It is not really a problem for the AI.

Chekia, when you go with me it's all fair winds and following seas. You should know that from my last trip.

Miami AI, The bugs will probably come out to play at night so there will be plenty of time ti "prepare" inside the tent at night. So forget work or just bring the books and prepare on the trip. Florida camping season is coming to an end.

Besides preparing in your tent in the Everglades will be a great simulation for a corporate boardroom. You'll be sweating your butt off and surrounded by predatory evil little beasties just dying to penetrate your defenses and suck out your lifes blood.

Hi Quirkster and Chekia,

sorry for the delayed reply, but I was job-wise pretty tight up since we bounced mails back and forth. I felt really bad not being able to join you guys.

Since the camping season is going to an end, I'm wondering, if you plan another adventure. I really would like to do another trip. Please keep me posted for anything you are planning.

Cheers,
Torsten (torstenATnorikkon.com)

Miami AI. Not sure if we are gonna get out to the Everglades but we are planning to take a road trip, probably not camping to the trailerable sailboat meeting in Cedar Key the first weekend of May. Chekika has the details.

Just curious. Why does the camping season end in Florida in early spring?

There's no season--it just gets too hot, humid, and buggy. Doesn't mean you can't kayak during the day and still enjoy the beautiful sights and sunsets from an air conditioned hotel room. Us old guys gotta have our creature comforts.

Quirkster & AI_Miami,

First, I cannot go up to Cedar Key this year—turns out I have some relatives coming to town and have to do some entertaining, fortunately, it will include tarpon fishing.

I’ve been to Cedar Key a couple times for the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron (WCTSS) gathering—it is truly a gathering because there is no schedule of anything. People just start showing up on the first Fri-Sat of May and leave on Sunday (This year it is May 2-3). The “organizerâ€
