Thanks Matt. We are all really lov'n it as well. This last trip with 5 AI's was our largest contingency to date. I must admit that I was personally pretty apprehensive with this trip to Broughton as it was my first ocean trip but I was suprised with myself that my confidence was building minute by minute. Having the blokes with experience close at hand and also all the safety gear like Eperbs, flares, lifelines etc certainly helped.

Wait until you see the next trip !

How far is Hawaii ?

Got it OK - Thanks
Give us a call if you're down my way - the Gippsland Lakes are fantastic - albeit a little bit tame compared with BI
However we do have 90 mile beach just over the sand hills - or through the entrance at Lakes Entrance. If we went out there we could just keep heading south for Tassie

Count me in for a Bass Strait crossing next Summer. We can leverage previous kayak crossings for initial planning. A rough history of kayak crossings is collated by Laurie Ford at: http://www.laurieford.net/maatbass.htm
Interesting trip reports:

Thanks for links.
This is really a different subject and will get lost if it's left here.
Maybe we need to start a new thread
I get the impression that the weather and seas are more predictable and generally less violent in the cooler months - say May.
I think Stringy mentioned the possibility of some of his workmates providing mothership support for such an adventure

How about a croque en bouche? It'll give Stringy something to mount his camera on too.
