From the set of photos you've submitted I'm thinking that there are a couple of dolphin shots that didn't make your high standard. The fairy penguin and white bellied sea eagle in my photos may as well have been chooks. At least you seal shot made the grade.

Gee, I had better get onto the ranger for Tasmania. Wouldn't be suprised if the same rules apply there.

Ditto. I'm quite impressed with that camera. Just wondering if you could tie some fishing line on the right and left of the camera and pan it whilst its on the tripod behind you. I was thinking of putting mine out on the end of the aka and doing this to get a 180 degree panorama. Getting the right friction on the mount may be a bit of trial and error.

Thanks all for the positive comments. It would be great if we could get some more starters next time. Maybe we could meet early at Currarong, unload the AI's, drive a couple of cars into the HB campsite, leave them there, return to Currarong, sail down the coast and in to HB. Pick up cars later. I like your creative shots Mickey. Shame about the dirty lens. "Chooks" You could only just tell it was a seal sleeping on its back, fins in the air and head underwater. I've got some SD video of the dolphins that I'll post when I get around to editing. Here is a low quality still Wildlife photography is very difficult with these type of cameras. Long lenses and tripods are what's needed of course. A rocking boat doesn't help. JB is teeming with wildlife as our trip proved. As Max pointed out the conservation efforts are working!

Are you sure that seal isn't a swan ? Great baitfish shot. I have always refrained from sticking the camera underwater even though it is an underwater camera. It just needs one of the little catches on one of the little doors to be not quite clipped and there goes $450. But with the amount of baitfish and ulta clear water, it is certainly a temptation. Also those monstorous jellfish needed to be photographed. Opportunities lost until next time. Mickey - I liked the impressionist shot. Did you use vasoline or breath. I just got off the phone with the ranger for Montague Island and guess what. Yep you guessed it, it's the same as Bowen only difference being that you can pay $100 for a boat ride plus 2 hour guided tour. You aren't actually allowed to land on the island. Saw whales, dolphins, seals and penguins. Not a lot different to our JB trip! That bike site is http://www.wiggle.co.uk PS- Those Goretex shorts arrived the morning after I left for JB I've worn them 3 times now and after testing them in 20 knots in both AI and Adventure mode I'm beginning to think they may be the best item of clothing I've bought. Great photos guys, especially the underwater shot. I wonder if it would be possible to mix oasis and AIs on a trip? When you said you did not have much wind I was thinking the oasis would be slower, but it is the sailing performance that would really seperate them. Geoff

Hey Geoff, howz it going. Yeah I suppose an oasis would have been just as quick if not quicker on the Friday. We got a bit more wind on the Saturday, but still not as much as the Broughton trip. Hope to catch up with you again soon mate.

Geoff, Two pedaling the Oasis would have been quicker for most of the weekend as the winds were light. The standard sail would have offered little assistance though and the trip around Bowen Island would have been tiring. The breeze came up nicely after lunch and made for a very pleasant return sail. I had the drive out most of the trip back.

Here is a short clip of our trip from Honeymoon Bay to Point Perpendicular and around the Beecroft Peninsula a bit. The winds were very light and we pedaled most of the way. I agree the GoPro needs to be able to pan. It's a very boring perspective unless something interesting is happening. That's why I kept circling you all when I could at JB. Mounted on the stern access is difficult. For this trip I modified the tripod so I could remove the camera still attached to the tripod stem and panning head. That also gave me something to hold onto. What's needed is a remote controlled panning head. Rambo's GoPro forum has some interesting mods using clockwork timers and small modified battery screwdrivers. Needs further investigation!
