Post subject:  Oklahoma AI and TI owners

I just orderd a TI today and wonder if there are any other AI or TI owners in Oklahoma. I am in the Oklahoma City area and will primarilly sail at Lake Hefner and Lake Arcadia, but I would be willing to travel some to meet other owners.

My TI is scheduled to arrive at Backwoods in mid to late June.

Hi Mark, I live in Tulsa and use my AI when I go camping at the area lakes. Just last weekend (5/21-5/23) I was camping at Greenleaf Lake SP and sailed the AI on the lake.

It's good to hear that there is an AI owner in OK. Thanks for the great pics. I have been to Greenleaf on a Boy Scout campout a few years ago. It's a beautiful place.

How does cartoping the AI work for you. Can you manage it yourself or do you have help getting it on and off the rack? I'm debating the best way to handle transporting the TI I just ordered, but doubt I will car top it. I have a Yukon XL that can handle the length, but with the extra weight of the TI, it would be a challenge getting it on and off the rack. So, I'm sure I will go with the Hobie Trailex trailer. I have e-mailed Trailex to see if there is a new trailer (longer) and/or new cradles specifically for the TI, but have not heard back from them. I have also posted similar questions on the Hobie Forum, but don't have any replies regarding the Trailex trailer or cradles.

I am considering purchasing an AI too if I can get what I want out of the motor boat I'm selling. We will see how that goes.

Thanx for the comment about pic.

I camp by-myself and I put the AI on top of the SUV by-myself. I lift the bow first on to the rear of the SUV and walk to the stern and lift it as I move forward. It just slides on top of the rack. The rest is easy.

On my last trip the kayak acted like a sail in the strong winds so I was push a bit on the trip home. But I manage al-right.

I believe the TI may be too heavy for one person lift the bow high enough on top of a vehicle.

Sterling - Thanks! I talked to my dealer, but it seems like he doesn't stay current on Hobie stuff. He told the that there were absolutly no changes to the AI from 2009 to 2010, which is not true. He also can't answer many of my questions. I don't think he has much Hobie sales volume in Oklahoma City and doesn't seem to have a personal interest in these boats either. So, that's why I'm going straight to Trailex and Hobie for answers myself.

Compucamper - Who is your dealer? I may make the drive to Tulsa and buy an Adventure on Saturday. My dealer doesn't have one and I'm itching to get on the water for the Memorial Day holiday.

Yakaboutit - There is no Hobie dealer in Tulsa, just the one in OKC. I online order mine from AustinKayak.com. At the time I order the shipping cost was cheap.
