I'm never over Cowan Creek. Our last trip there barely scratched the surface. There's still Cottage Point, Jerusalem Bay, Castle Lagoon, Coal & Candle Creek, Smiths Creek and lots more, all the way down to Bobbin Head.
Another possibility, Mooney Mooney to Spencer is a very scenic trip, though the winds can be erratic that far up the Hawkesbury River. The burgers at the Spencer store are reputed to be the best in the universe. I can personally vouch for the veggie burger only.
I'm open to suggestions.

I'm always happy to do Cowan Creek. Where was that spot you were telling me about Chris where the water was crystal clear?
So should we meet at Patonga again or is there somewhere better?
We did a quick reccy today for when we do the Terrigal run. Pretty Beach boat ramp would be the best place to leave the car. Plenty of grassy parking and a good boat ramp that looks AI friendly. From there it is a 20min drive back to Terrigal Haven via Wards Hill and Kincumber. (not McMasters Beach as that is a lot longer.)
PS: Even today the southerly swell was up. It is supposed to get a lot bigger by Saturday.

That's Castle Lagoon Stringy. If Davew and/or CGM want to join us from Sydney, maybe they and I should launch from Brooklyn and we could rendezvous at the mouth of Cowan Creek, like we did last time.

Cowan Creek is on my bucket list and sound more reliable re weather. I'm in. Will confirm when detailed.

You will love it Dave. To feel so remote yet so close to Sydney not only amazing but pretty unique.

What time are we talking ? I know how to get there this time so I shouldn't be late. Still don't know though whether or not it's quicker to come down the highway and turn at Somersby, or go Manns Rd through Umina etc. Where abouts are you Sydneyites launching. On the Sydney side of the Hawksberry or the Newcastle side ?

Slaughter, the quickest way for you would be to turn off the freeway at Kariong then turn right, onto Woy Woy Rd, from Kariong.
Alternatively, if it's more famiiar to you, you could go down the hill to West Gosford, then turn right at the lights onto Brisbane Water Drive (not Manns Rd) and go through Woy Woy and Umina.
You need a GPS with street navigation mate  .
Brooklyn (Sydney side) is the nearest launch point to the Broken Bay end of Cowan Creek coming from Sydney.
We need to get Stringy to change the name of this thread.

Thanks Chris. Yep I've done the trip twice and still get lost around the Woy Woy area but I think I'm right now. I'll print this out though.

Just looking at Google Maps after your comment on Spencer. Without any deviations, it would be a 30km round trip from if we launched from the bridge. I think though you may have said once that it may not be as scenic as the Cowan Creek area ?

Just a thought. ( maybe because I'm hungry. I've heard about the pies )

Slaughter, I don't know if we should change the venue again at this late stage, but I'm happy to do the Spencer trip any time you like. I've done it once before and it didn't seem excessively long. I wouldn't say it was less scenic - just a bit different - fewer spectacular sandstone cliffs, more islands.
Think Jennifer Hawkins vs Lara Bingle.
As to lunch, you can get a nice feed at the Cottage Point kiosk too (I'm an authority on lunch 8)).

Sat 18-9-10 I'd put in at Bobbin Head. I guess 2.5 hours to Little J Bay where we may meet. Low tide 10.50am sounds like a good time to meet at L JBay. Use the Tide to head up the creek. What r your thoughts?

2.5 hours would be about right Dave. That means you'll be 5 hours sailing to and from Little Jerusalem Bay, so we'll basically be meeting up for lunch.
If Dave is launching from Bobbin Head and CGM isn't coming, I'll launch from Patonga, with Stringy and Slaughter.

Sounds like a great plan, although I'm confused as the whether we are doing Jen or Lara this weekend ?

What's a good time to meet at Patonga ? 8:00 ?

Looking like I can make this. Brooklyn (Parsley Bay) is the best place for me to launch from.

Crap my browser didn't update and I didn'tr see the newer posts. I can launch from Bobbin Head if required. Never been there but it's on my list.

From past experience and the forecast I may predict that there might not be a lot of fast sailing on the day and that pedaling time should be factored in.

Still not sure on the exact plan. Are we launching at our respective locations and heading to Little Jerusalem Bay area for lunch? As to lunch are we stopping off someplace like Cottage Point (un, like there's anywhere else....).

CGM is right. We have tried to get to Jerusalem Bay from Patonga at least 6 times (3 times in the TI) and have given up each time due to light or unfavourable winds. :(
It may prove very difficult trying to meet up with such a distance between starting points.
I'm wondering ....if our prefered destination is Jerusalem Bay and upstream whether a starting point other than Patonga would be better? Problem is the long roundabout drive. :?
I seem to remember from our last trip that Slaughter may actually be better off staying on the F3 and exiting at Brooklyn.

Post subject:  Re: Terrigal to Pretty Beach via Maitland Bay Day Trip.

Just got a new UHF radio (between posts....). Last one got drowned up there. This one can put out 3W if required. I remember trying to contact ChrisJ off Patonga. We could see him but had a hard time communicating. Of course my radio was starting to suffer water issues by then.

Who else has a UHF for short range yak-yak comms?
