Sorry for the late note for Boxing Day Donald. I finished up with family commitments but hope you had a great day anyway.
I'm at the cricket on the 3rd then up to Brisbane for the rest of my break so I won't be able to join up this time. Unfortunately weather looks like it's closing in and is also another factor in picking suitable days.

Hey Davew, where in Northbridge do you launch from?

I went out this afternoon from Connells Pt Sailing Club with my AI, TI and three kids. A really good launching spot

A nice fellow called Bill caught up with us on the beach. He had a Hobie Oasis tandem kayak with the little sail. He hadn't sailed before and found a good starting point.

Sure to catch u on the water soon.

The ramp is at Tunks Park Northbridge-excellent facility at all tides parking a bit tight during holiday time. Good access to middle harbour and offshore.

Sailed from Pitwater to Sydney again last Wed-10-15k NE 40Kms in 3.5hrs great sail no dramas some great surfing up to 150m a wave. Need 20k to really get going. Want to sail down to Botany Bay and Port Hacking soon. Sydney to Long Reef and return is a good first offshore trip. The sailing outside is much better than the harbour for pure sailing pleasure.

Dave, do you have some kind friend, or significant other, who picks you up at the end of these long one-way trips?

hi chris
yes we meet at northbridge 2 boats on my mates car, drive to Palmie and his wife is kind enough to drive back-it costs him a meal I believe.

A bit too far for me to come right now - but those coastal trips sound excellent

Do you use a trailer, or put both boats on the roof? If on the roof, how do you arrange them?

Chris
We carry the 2 AIs on Thule roofracks on a Jeep station wagon. The boats are bottom down with outriggers on top mast on the side and boats individualy tied down. Nothing special, future sails include Sydney to botany bay and day trips out between Shell Harbour and Jervis Bay. The AIs are great out at sea, just do what you feel comfortable with. Good idea to practice steering with a paddle and changing rudder pins.

Thanks Dave. You're lucky having a willing driver. Stringy and Slaughter and I have been going spare for months, trying to come to grips with the logistics of a relatively short trip from Terrigal to Broken Bay.

Hi all,
I was planning to take my TI for a road trip from Sydney to Gold Coast, and explore the rivers there and back. but due to the weather I'm flying up now. :(

Anyone interested in a get together in the days from 24 to 26 Jan?
My thoughts are Sydney Harbour from Tunks Park
Lane Cove River from Hunters Hill.

Or, for ChrisJ Stringy and Slaughter. How about you do your Terrigal to Hardys Bay trip. I'll see you off then drive down to Hardys Bay, sail around from there and turn around when I meet you along the route. That way I can drive you back to Terrigal to your cars.

cheers
Donald

Post subject:  Re: Sydney based AI sailors: Interested in some group outing

That's a kind offer Donald, but unless you have a setup capable of carrying 4 AI's/TI's, there is still the logistic problem of leaving someone to mind the boats at Hardys Bay while the others get their cars, then getting the minder back to Terrigal to get their car etc. Doable, but complex. As for an outing on Sydney Harbour or the Lane Cove River on Australia Day, sounds like a great idea if the crowds can be avoided.

Logistics would be:
I drive people and knickable bits back from Hardys Bay to Terrigal (20mins?) and head home.
People drive back to Hardys Bay, pack up and head home.

But it would be easier just to start at Hardys, head out and around Lion Island and return.

Any takers for Australia Day or day before, let us know.

I think of my AI as a "knickable bit". Dunno if I'd be prepared to leave it unguarded.
As to a trip around Lion Island and back, that's just a normal day outing up this way (and a damn fine one, I must say). I often do it launching from Brooklyn, since that's my most convenient launch point.

Still looking at Australia day. Got a building full of our North American friends who I'm trying to convince to take the day off and have a BBQ. They are not jumping at the chance yet...

Need to find them a "What's on guide to Australia day in Sydney" I think

I'd be up for an Australia Day sail in Sydney Harbour. My TI is at WSC at Rose Bay and I normally put off there. I could RV in the Harbour somewhere. (Packed) Lunch at Balmoral? or fish and chips at Watsons Bay?
