Post subject:  North Texas Adventure Island Sailors...Are there Any?
Just wondering if I'm the only one. I got my AI Golden Papaya late summer 2011.
Had one great day with continuous screaming reaches for five hours in a punchy 18-22 breeze at 102F degrees. I was in pain after two hours but I hadn't sailed in a few years so I couldn't stop since I was having so much fun.
What amazed me was the amount of acceleration. from only a 45 sq. ft. sail.
Hobie must know what they are doing with the vertically batten sail.
the second Saturday I too it out in October was one of those days when a few things go wrong and a quirky wind that was 18 fo 10 minutes then 2mph for ten minutes then 18 then 2 then 0.
I fouled up my mirage drive on the bottom and was jury rigging my sail because I lost some hardware at the clew of the sail fittings.
New to this boat and had to learn a few things.
So I'm really ready for a nice breezy day under 25 to be out there and fly my little sailing kayak/trimaran.
I think that I will use the Mirage Drive periodially but not in association with coming in or going out to avoid contact with the bottom entirely.
After I got hit in the ear with a garden hose type line of spray off the bow I finally located online a guy selling set of wave deflectors which I'm excited about attaching. That solid stream of water peeling off the port bow was a surprise but felt good at 102F degrees but I visualized the reaction I'd have in 52F degree water.
Another add-on was a pair of Hakas using three pieces of red oak. My wood working friend built them for me and applied three coats of sealant.
I intend to lash them running between fore and aft akas as I've seen done on this forum by some AI sailors ion Hawaii.
I haven't taken the boat out since Sept. 2011 even though I have wetsuit and boots.
There's something about this boat makes me think its part airplane.
I'm naming my boat "Aeoroplane".

I just purchased a Adventure Island a few weeks ago. I live up by Ray Roberts lake. I'm looking forward to catch up with other Texas AI owners.

Hey Eddie, I from Garland and I have a Red Hibiscus '08 AI. There's a few more of us around than you would think. I believe Shaun is trying to drum up a area Island group to do some sailing and fishing in the near future.

got my AI when they 1st came out, living on lake Granbury at that time, retired late 07 moved back to the Cayman Islands and took the AI with me, had lots of fun sailing/trolling there. Moved back to the US 2010 and kept the AI,sold my big PB and other kayaks in Cayman. Now live on Inks Lake which I,ve sailed often. would be interested in the meeting at Grapevine and will look out for more details.
