Post subject:  Rocky Mountain AI's to try out

There is a Paddlefest at Heron Lake State Park just over the border from

Pagosa Springs Colorado the first weekend in August. Good opportunity to explore the waters of Rio Grande Reservoir in Colorado and Navajo Lake (awesome lake to camp out on in the Fall) , Day Paddle/sail El Vado Reservoir and Heron Lake (no-wake lake). I will be bringing out my two AI's for folks to try out instead of the strict paddle mode.

Would welcome any publicity and of course participation as well as any last minute vendors who want to bring their stuff (as long as they bring some giveaways so we don't run afoul of our state's anti donation clause..

Friday, August 1 at Noon to -Sunday, August 3 at 3 P.M.

Heron Lake

Heron Lake Paddle Power Festival

This is a great chance to learn about kayaking and canoeing. Demo boats from Hobie, Necky, and others will be available with workshops, demonstrations and paddling safety information. Meet experienced paddlers and view boat and gear exhibits.

Two special programs are featured:

A NM Endowment for the Humanities Chautauqua given by Jack Loeffler, author of "Adventures with Ed" about his travels with Edward Abbey;

The program recounts the life of environmental anarchist Edward Abbey and includes readings from Loeffler’s biographical memoir of his late best friend. Together, Abbey and Loeffler ranged the American Southwest engaged in a conversation that lasted for decades. Jack Loeffler is a writer, aural historian and radio producer whose books and radio programs focus on traditional culture and environmental activism west of the 100th meridian and in Mexico.

River travel author Verne Huser speaking on aspects of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Verne was a river runner taking trips with such luminaries of the environmental philosophy movement as Roderick Nash the author of Wilderness and the American Mind. He put out:
