If possible dont remove the seat, on the rare occasions I cartop my AI I keep the seat in place. the few times I have removed it its been quite a pull and thats because (as in the previous post) sand has got caught between the peg and the the hole it fits into.
When I replaced it I followed a tip on this forum (its old stuff this seat talk) and used a short length of broomstick and mallet to tap the pegs in place.

Pirates idea of a wooden dowel sounds good, the self tapper that goes into one of my pegs aint tappin' no more and a solid bit of dowel would be a much better material as you would be screwing into it rather than thru it.

As for windsurfing I always had to stuff a rag around the wooden plug (before ramming it into place) to prevent getting whacked in the groin when it popped free uphauling...then came a wonderful improvement with the 'Windglider' which used a big nylon pin to locate the mast in the board, instead of whacking you in the goolies it would rake you up the shin...JEEZ none of it was good!!!!!!!!!! I think we used rubber bands to keep the pins in...

For cartopping I carry a 16 litre backpack sprayer, when I'm done sailing I load up the yak then wash it down....the water diffuses well enough to wash off the salt water and that includes around the seat. Once I've done the boat I take a shower myself...and theres still 2/3rds left...amazing machine!

Regarding washdown - I have the Car Cube that I use for washing down my boat and AI amongst other things.
I know Stringy has one too.
Wash down facilities are a real problem in many locations here and I have found this is a pretty good solution.

Philip1el - your 16 ltr backpak sprayer sounds like it does the job too. I did consider using one of these as I already have two I use for spraying our property.
Stringy said he bought his Cube off an eBay Auction site very cheap

Mickey...whatever next? Never heard of a car cube before...all these 'things' I never knew existed until I came onto this forum....'marine goop'. 'Gflex' (sounds like a gastric condition..."bad case of Gflex") and now a 'car cube'...its all brilliant stuff!!!...wish I'd heard about it before I bought my sprayer!!

For the Europeans out there (I know there are !), the equivalent seems to be the Mobi Washer. http://www.mobiwasher.co.uk/ I just ordered one, so I'll let you know if it's good (got it with 10% off at http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=34761).
I store my yak in a parking box where there's no water tap unfortunately, and rinsing my kite gear is a plus as well.
Cheers

I like the Car Cube, but alas ... it appears it isn't available in the USA.

So I went searching for a similar gadget available here, and found this: NOMAD

It seems ... rather similar ...

There must be a considerable amount of difference in the matching diameters of seat plugs and the plug 'holes' between hulls.
My seat plugs are noticeably smaller than the holes! The seat plugs just drop right into the holes with no contact at all! I have wrapped
up to six layers of friction tape around the plugs to get the diameter
to match the holes. But with so much tape wrapped around the plugs, eventually the tape 'telescopes' out and I am back to having loose plugs.
I am thinking about replacing the factory seat plugs with some High Density PolyEthylene rods with a larger diameter than the factory plugs.
