Has anyone come up with a successful means of keeping the seat in place? The seat pegs are so much smaller in diameter than the seat peg 'holes', that the seat keeps popping out and moving around. I tried using friction tape on the pegs but I have to wrap so much tape around them...that the tape begins to move around very quickly. I put a 'friction pad' (used in RVs, etc., to keep dishes from moving in cupboards) under the seat, but as soon as I move around slightly the pad slips on the seat plastic. I thought about using marine adhesive to hold the seat pegs in place, but then I wouldn't be able to remove the seat for drying and cleaning. PS...Sorry about this thread not being at the end of the previous thread...I think I am coming down with the H1N1 virus... |

Just screw a firm fitting hardwood dowell into each plastic peg that will expand slightly when wet and stop the peg from working out. Initially I had great problems with mine like you have been experiencing but this method solved it for me.....Pirate

I cut a piece of that shelf-lining no slip mat to go under the seat, then "pounded" the seat pegs through it with a length of two by four. Has held fine for several outings, and yes, that was a VERY annoying problem when I first got the boat... |

I simply glued mine in with plastic holding epoxy. I scuffed the inside of the holes as well as the pegs to keep the epoxy from breaking loose. The advantage is that the seat never comes out now and I can never forget it and leave it at home. The disadvantages are that the seat never comes out now. However I do not store it in the sun so I don't see any problems. Ron P. |

Initially I inserted cotter pins horizontally but they started to wear so I took Matts advice with my own revision. I found a great glue at West Marine. "G/flex (2 part)epoxy 650-8a and 650-8b. Made for kayaks. First I drilled a small hole at the BOTTOM of each female cavity. Remove the screws that hold the pegs to the seat and replace them with longer machine type screws that will extend through the hole out the bottom of the cavity. Secure them in place with washers and nuts/wing nuts etc. But pour the glue into the cavity first! In the unlikely event the glue should break down(over time) from the elements- the screws will still hold. The seat has stayed nice and tight after several really rough rides. West Marine also has a great glue for the carbon fiber mast should you chip it.101-TS(2 part epoxy).  Good luck!Nothing more annoying than having those pegs pop out at a critical time.

Had that problem too. Looked at a sport back in the shop, seemed to have a sleeve piece of what looked like heat shrink tubing around the pins, that mine did not have. I used plain old duct tape to get the same effect, worked just fine for me. |
