Post subject:  Repair a hole in the Hull

Hello,

I have a hole about 3/4" in diameter on top of the hull where the cable for my fish finder came out. I need to seal off the hole and need to know the best way to do it. I will try to get a picture of it this week.

Top of the hull...sort of on the deck like my 3/4" hole? Non critical area if its in the same place, the cable came out through a grommet with a hole in the middle, just purchase a 3/4" blind grommet and pop it into the hole, if you want to be fussy glue it in with marine goop!

I bought a repair kit (T-80; based on ERSA multi TC welder; see http://www.orbi-tech.com/) for welding plastic materials and made quite good experiences. Now I saw in a Hobie brochure (https://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/kayak_catalog/eKayakCatalog2009_Fall.pdf; pg. 29;72097001 KC WELDER PRO) that they are selling something similar. According to the dealer of the T-80 it is important that the temperature is stabilized and has to match with the one to weld PE (max. 265 deg. Celsius).

Regards
Axel

first you will need to find a way to dry out the wet floatation areas. possibly you could install an inspection port.

here is the west epoxy repair manual, there is detailed info on how to repair fiberglass hulls using a patch inserted through the hole and pulled tight against the inside of the hull, then finishing the patch from the out side.
