The sail bag for my TI is about 2 or 3 inches too short.

With the top of the sail positioned in a corner of the bag I can start to tighten the string that closes the bag but there is a hole about the size of a half dollar and the bag is stretched really tight.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

They are tight, but cover the sail completely. Just part of the mast base sticks out. We may make these a bit longer in the future, but for now... this is the way they are.

The AI bags are on the tight side too, but it sounds worse w/ your TI. Others can comment on this.

Here's a question for all owners though-

Which way to you insert your mast in the cover? Tip first or base first? Why?

It's sparked a vigorous debate in our group.

Always tip first... so the sail is 100% covered.

NOHUHU;

I put mine in tip first. It’s the way I have with all 3 of my hobie sail boats, mainly to keep the sun and road junk off the sail. I can always wash the base when I rinse the salt off. I want to keep the UV off the sail for as long as possible. The sun won’t hurt the base.

There is no comparison between my AI sail bags and the one for the TI. The AI bags close with no problem. In order to get the TI bag partially closed I have to possition the tip of the sail in the corner of the top of the bag or when you pull the drawstring the bottom of the mast is not covered at all.

I started this thread to find out whether my bag was made wrong or if there is a design problem.

I must say I'm not happy with Matt Miller's attitude about this issue. The TI is not a cheap boat and the sail bag is just one of many quality control issues I have had with my boat. I would think Hobbie would want to take care of all the problems.

Yep, tip first. Easier to poke the base out and rinse/dry the furling line. Even if the sail stays dry the firling line will be wet. When travelling any great distance I also tape up the end to stop it flapping about and undoing.

Tip first always. I have no problems with the AI sail Bag. Perfect fit.
