I just wanted to say that during all the sailing we've done down here in the Florida Keys this week - some in 5 to 6 foot Atlantic chop - not once has one of the akas popped out since I installed the new lock collars. They work as advertised and they have fixed the problem.

Thanks Hobie!

Mitch - That's great news. Neither of the boats I ordered in early May have arrived yet. I assume my TI will arrive with the new lock collar. I did received the trailer (Doulbe), put it together this week in about 3.5 hours. I hear that the Adventure should arrive this week and the TI is still 2-3 weeks out.

Mitch;
I put the fix collars on ours also and have not had them come loose once yet.

Here is a video of The Tampa Bay Area. (I just now figured out how to embed them)

That's great.

I am still not sure if I have the fix or not. If I do, the dealer removed the stickers. I do know, while out in the middle of the lake and not moving the starboard side rear aka came out and then I gently locked it back in place. It has only happened once so far.

Thanks for the feedback Mitch and larryhts. That is great news! 8)
Did you just install the upgraded collars or did you do the latch fix as well?
As we don't have the collars downunder yet I'd like to know if the latch fix only is just as successful. :)

TxYakMan,
From what you have posted, it looks like you don't have the fix.

I just replaced the collars. The new ones had much more area where the clips bite.

after my TI was in the shop for a week or so getting the rudder fixed they claimed to have fixed the aka things as well with either the parts or the diy I am not sure. I had it out 2 times since the fix and the first time was perfect the aka behaved as it should but yesterday in about 10+ mph wind the rear left aka started to come out again, and again. what is the deal with this thing. how come it won't just stay in like it should? am i doing something wrong?

Stringy, all I had to do was install the new collars and all is well.

Rusty, I don't have an answer for you as to why they are still coming out. I would suggest taking it back to the dealer and having them redo the replacement job.

Kayaking Bob did the latch fix, and I believe that he hasn't had any problems since. There is a post somewhere, which shows his 'before' and 'after' shots of the latches... try searching for Bob's posts ("reconlon").

Rusty, are you sure the collars haven't been installed backwards? Check out this post: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=28423.
