I purchased a new Adventure in 2007 and after buying the sail kit, I've gotten the sailing bug. I rented a TI last week and it was a blast. I was all set to buy the conversion kit however when I looked at the serial number I see that my Adventure is actually a 2006 model. The serial number is CCMD0435K506. Is it at all possible to convert my Adventure to a AI? I've looked at the pictures of the new AIs and I don't see any difference in the exterior molding to mine. Looking at the mast reciever base there is no additional support forward of the screw which I see in the latest conversion kit instructions. I'm pretty good at some customization and DIY(ing) so if some tweaking is required I could. Thanks for your help |

Do you see molded in brass fittings where the aka xbar assembly can be screwed onto the gunnels? (2 each on the front and rear, right and left) If no, then no, you'll have to sell it to buy a newer one. It may be cheaper to sell your Adventure and buy a new AI anyhow. Plus many new features each year. Good luck, whichever you choose. |

I just talked with the friendly folks at Hobie and no I don't have the right version of the Adventure. Apparently they changed to include the upgrade just slightly after mine was built. Bummer, I was pretty excited about sailing an AI on a regular basis. I just don't think the small sail and the side kick will be fast enough. Looking at it, it seems unlikely that I could DIY something up. The distance between the rear hatch and the position where the aka mounts is much longer than my arm. Thanks Mike |

My advice ? sell your adventure ... take a few lumps if need be, and get yourself into an AI or TI. Life is too short to miss out on this much fun |
