Post subject:  Proper Adjustment of TI V-bracket

I removed the v-bracket (located within the hull, by the mast cup) on my TI in anticipation of some warranty work in the area.

Turns out that I jumped the gun, and did not need to remove it. During the disassembly, I really loosened/tightened the turnbuckles on the v-bracket so that it could be removed.

I am getting ready to reinstall the v-bracket, but am not sure how to properly adjust the two turnbuckles. Anyone familiar with the proper adjustment of the v-bracket ?

When I adjust mine, I put in the mast and adjust for less than 1/3rd of the thickness of the reefing line, but enough clearance so the spool on the mast doesn't rub anywhere. This stops the reefing line from easily getting caught under the spool if it's loose when tacking.

Thanks Kayaking Bob, that sounds easy enough.

BTW, does the adjustment of the v-bracket also change the vertical angle of the mast ?

Shouldn't much if at all. It mainly changes the height of the deck and in doing so makes minor changes in the width at that point.

Is the "width" that is mentioned the width of the boat at that point ?

Yes, but minutely, hardly measurable. It basically pushes the deck of the hull up.
