The Turbofin on my Outback was damaged when the kayak fell with the fins extended. One fin rod has pierced the fin rubber on the side. Is there any special way or repair material to repair the damaged fin material? Thanks |

I've had success with a simple rubber repair kit: viewtopic.php?f=75&t=17004&p=86934 |

I tried a Gorilla glue repair and it lasted all season - see tips on this photo: http://s317.photobucket.com/albums/mm38 ... G_4637.jpg |

I have used plastic weld epoxy for a quick fix and a friend has used G-flex. http://westsystem.com/ss/g-flex-epoxy/ Both seem ok, but a real repair would involve gluing and rivoting some aluminum strips to the sails leading edge. This was documented here somewhere and It would be nice to get an update on how the repairs have held up. Frankly, it should be done to all fins, to ruggedize them. |

Here's a new take on an old problem. I googled and found extra wide 1/2" door edge molding for truck doors. You can protect/repair your fin leading edges with this stuff. It has heat-activated glue in the center but I recommend applying with crazyglue. Be as neat as you can. If you want, you can run a heating iron or flame over the front edge to release the rubber glue, after the crazy glue sets. It's covering several puncture holes in my fins and protecting nicely. |

Are those molding pieces made of plastic? |

Yes. U-shaped, tapered. tough but flexible. You might be able to make a similar guard by splitting 1/2" plastic irrigation tubing. |
