Matt, Can you give us a bit more info on this problem that caused the withdrawal of Kokopedal/Sirtackalot from the Everglades Challenge? (as reported by Keith here viewtopic.php?f=70&t=34203&p=138369#p138369 )  Is this the part # -79528001 SCREW SOCKET SET? Is it likely to have broken or just worked loose? Would it be worthwhile carrying one as a spare? |

He also mentions that it has to be 'cut out and fibreglassed in' ??? What does the mast base design look like ? |

Well I've just checked my TI V-brace base and the socket screw was loose. Disregard my second question as it is obviously broken in the video. The screw measures 32mm:  My screw is slightly bent and has damaged threads where the v-brace was rubbing. There is no sign of any loctite on the threads either. When I had the x-bar replaced this was checked and seemed tight. Obviously it wasn't.  Looks like this may be something to watch. Slaughter, The TI mast base is almost identical to the AI, just slightly larger. In fact it looks like the part # is the same for the socket screw. I imagine it would be difficult to replace it in the field. |

KB--no, it was not the old fiberglass boat. It was a relatively new, rotomolded boat, so I think he was off base about the fiberglass business. It was something he said on their video, when he first observed the damage after they had beached the boat. Keith |

My AI knuckles have some loose play in them - which I only expect to get worse. My mate Gerry, has looseness and corrosion occurring around the rivet points after 3 months careful use. This is something I will be watching very carefully also. The TI should arrive tomorrow...... |

Stainless Steel has a stress cracking problem where it develops micro-cracks. Bolts can fail in thread areas due to machining problems when cutting the threads. The US Navy is very aware of this and stopped using 316 hardware in any loaded applications. We use 400 and 600 series bolts. The stainless steel corrosion stress cracking can be a invisible enemy.
