Need help with new rudder install

Post subject:  Need help with new rudder install
I was installing the new rudder assembly on my TI and ran into a problem. I installed the new left and right control line tubes in the hull and tapped the tube covers with a flat head screw driver. I reached into the hull to pull the right rudder line through the tube and when I pulled on the line, (which I thought was connected to the rudder but was just loosely wrapped around the screw), it pulled back through the tube. I've been trying for the last hour to get the line back through the tube...to no avail.

Any suggestions? I was trying to get ready to sail for the Memorial weekend holiday :x

Use one of your old tubes and line?

Unfortunately, the old lines aren't long enough. I cut them. The new lines are thicker and have knots in them at the appropriate places.

I need to get the line threaded back through the tube.

When I need to do these things, I "fish" a fishing line through and tie onto what needs to be puller through, then pull. I hope this helps.

there are black push in "fittings" on both ends of the tubes. Carefully remove them and keep track of which goes where. You want to thread all the pieces back in order.

With them out threading the tube isn't bad and the fittings are a pain but manageable.

There's a black fitting inside (deep) in the new tube. I can't get it out. I'm think I'm going to try removing the push in fittings off the old tubes and cut them short like the new tubes. If that doesn't work, I'm going to try the fishing line.

that is the toughest fitting to remove. I used a length of #14 house electrical wire to push it out. One of the skinny wire coat hangers should also work.

Just be sure that you have a way to capture it when it comes flying out !

I, too, have had good luck with stiff monofiliment fishing line. In my case, fishing brake and derailleur cables through tubes installed internally to hi end bicycle frames.

Get some heavy mono and trim the end of it to a point, or cut it on a slant, and it's usually stiff enough to push through a lot of tubing.
