I am proud to be the first owner of a 2011 Hobiecat AI in Singapore. Only a few months old we have discovered one of the AMAS leaks water (not much however we have to empty about a litre every few sails). I have noticed that the hole for the aka to slot into looks different to the non leaking AMAS and there may be a small side hole in the amas slot which is slightely offset compared to the good AMaS. I will take some photographs tomorrow. Just want to find out if anyone else has seen or heard of such an issue? A bad production run maybe? It does not seem a particularly bad problem - but want to make sure this isn't storing up problems for later on. Any advice? Thanks ray |

Hi rayowenuk. A litre in 2 sails is a huge amount. Sounds like the bung plug isn't sealing. Put a few litres in it, screw it up and stand it on it's end to see if it is sealing. Be careful not to cross thread. With the Amas, there always sounds as though there is a lot more water in them than there actually is. |

Thanks for the tips. I have checked the bung - and also done a water check no issue here. Seems to be perfectly tight. Here is the top and bottom view of the AMAS hole for the AKA on the normal hull followed by some holes from the AMAS which look a bit odd. https://picasaweb.google.com/ray.owen.u ... directlink |

Try carefully removing each ama bungee plastic base (one at a time). It is more likely that one of the inset "cups" has a crack in it. If so, it can usually be repaired easily with silicon sealer or the proper epoxy. If you do not have the tool to remove them, long-nose plyers will work if you are careful. We have had a couple of AI's with stuborn leaks that turned out to be the "cups" holding the bungees for the front hatch. |

You're right, those photos show a pretty weird hole. It dosen't look right. You could do the pressure test by sealing and supplying a small internal pressure via a bike pump and going around it with some soapy water. Or stand it with it's nose down and fill it up with water and find the leak that way. ( support it well cause it will be heavy ) Or better still, take it back as a warrenty claim. |
