On the Tandem Island (TI), there is very strong pressure against the mainsail’s clear window when the sail is furled tight around its mast. The sail is chafing where the window touches the hard white batten receiver caps integrated into the mainsail.

This chafing has caused a tear to the clear window of my TI’s mailsail.

Have any other TI owners begun to experience this problem yet? What are our repair options?

Here on Maui, after about 3 active years of sailing year round, the clear areas fail. We've found a local sail repairer (mostly wind surfer sails) that will replace all the clear parts for $100us Only one of my AI's and my TI are original now, and seems to be working out great.

We also now coat the sails especially the clear parts with the Hobie protector or 303 which seems to help them last even longer from sun damage.

The worse offender causing the cracks to start seems to be tying down the sails tight during transport, so we now try not to attach them near the clear areas of sail (mast) so only the top half and near the bottom (spool) area.
