Ahh Hobie - you always do the right thing by your customers.

As to prevention, I wonder if this stuff would help.

Firstly - Thanks Steve and Hobie.
Secondly Chris I believe 316 marine grade stainless steel is regarded as neutral and will not react with dissimilar metals, brass and ally react.

I have replaced mine twice now. The corrosion always seems to start where the brass insert sits higher than the hull and wears thru the paint on the cross bar foot. Where the alloy and brass make no contact the corrosion is almost nil.
Mine last time were only 11 months old.
I would post some pics if I could work it out.

There you go. I have cut thin rubber pads the same shape as the crossbar foot and cut small rubber washers to go under stainless washer to help prevent contact of the brass and alloy. Plus a fresh coat of paint makes it look nice again!
