Post subject:  Mast Bearing Plate Sheared Off!!!

I was sailing in winds of 15-20mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. At a certain point, I heard a popping sound and noticed the mast seemed to be moving around within the bearing plate. I thought a gust might've popped the mast out of the retaining clip, but upon closer inspection, I saw that the entire bearing plate had pulled out of the forward AKA - sheared completely off!!! Now there's just a hole where the bearing plate connects. (I would be happy to post photos -- but can't seem to drop one into this post.)

Anybody else suffering from metal fatigue? My boat is a 2011 Tandem Island, manufactured between January 2011 to May 2011 (purchased from Austin Canoe and Kayak in June 2011).

For what it is worth, I read the post about the failing front cross bar a few months ago. I had noticed the weld at the mast bearing had fractures right around, it was not broken yet but Hobie had found this problem and redesigned the cross bar and they swapped mine out for the newer version. The link you were given has all the stuff your dealer will need.
:D
