Post subject:  New AI trailer cradle issue

Hi , loaded my AI up on the new Hobie AI trailer and the rear hull cradle is 4" below the hull with all the weight of the boat resting on the AMA and AKA hull-connections.

I have not been able to contact the Hobie agent who supplied it yet so in the meantime any one else have this issue or know of it?

Wow Max- we are seeing a lot of this. http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=43567&start=30

Yours seems high on the starboard side also. Are the anchor bolts spaced evenly?

General advice = Release the pressure of the Ama bungees and see what happens. Then adjust (slide) the rear saddle, if you can, to get a better fit.

Speaking of fits, I would have a $1200 one if those things don't work.

Should look more like this though:

(BTW, strapping the hull down with the block under it is a bad idea).

That to me, looks like a TI cradle not an AI. TI's fold back pretty flat ama and hull level. AI's the ama are much lower than the hull when folded back. If you fold AI ama forward, they will be about level with the hull. Maybe?

Maybe. To me, it looks like the other "new" AI sets on the Hobie trailers, but that's not an AI ezloader he has. Maybe a hobie tandem frame, but I don't think so.

So the spacing of the crossbeams may be off. The Akas are not folded all the way back yet, against the hull.

More info please.

Am I missing something here? I can only see a single cradle. Is that cradle in the correct place, or have you moved it forward? Just sayin'

Yeah, that looks like a TI cradle.

What you have are V2 Island cradles - there is a V1 (which your boat is) that you'll need - the difference is due to the aka arm attachment system and how the amas rest on the trailer - the old system didn't have any play, the new system does so it fits the cradles completely different.

Return that set to your dealer and get in place part # 72020403 (shown on page 16 of the parts catalog)

JB, does the v1 system still have the black carpeted material to help identify it, or do they both look the same now?

The V1 are are made from glass not ABS and do have carpet - but that could vary - I need to confirm and get back to you on that.... it's obvious in the shape - that the center area of the cradle is raised higher than the ama portion.

Thanks, what anchor bolts?

Thanks but not sure what this means, take off the AMA attach Bungee? How would that help?

I wish I had never bought the hobie Trailer.

Yes, that is why I haven't moved it since purchase.

Thanks, the AMA cant be folded back against the hull because the AMA Cradles prevent it from happening.

Another Hobie dealer agrees with your "wrong cradles" assessment.

Thanks, no, I haven't moved anything, this is supposed to be a Hobie Trailer from a hobie dealer.

Thank You, Another trusted/experienced dealer said the same thing.
I have explained this to my hobie dealer and even quoted the part numbers but he has rejected it and said, "Aus Hobie states that All cradles are the same". without saying what his source is.

What should I do if he refuses to fit the correct rear cradle?

Show your dealer the post from JB. That ought to be enough.

I'll be interested to see what comes out of this. The original fibreglass cradles were over $400 from memory. The plastic cradles are around the $200 mark.
So it looks like Hobie are saying there are no plastic cradles for the V1 Aka AI's? :?
