The mast on my TI wiggles some in the ring of nylon balls. It is clicked into the retainer clip, and seems to be seated all the way down. It just seems that the ID of the circle of nylon balls is maybe 1/32" to 1/16" larger than what would make a wiggle free fit on the mast. It this normal? All of the nylon balls are in place. Any comments would be more than appreciated, as I plan to really put it to the test starting tomorrow.

If you attempt to tighten things up, you will loose the slop but will find that furling and unfurling the sail becomes much more difficult. I think that little bit of "slop" allows for a bit of margin in things like temperature changes, pressure on the sail, etc. |

Sailing in any wind above light and variable should push the mast against one part of the cup and shouldn't wiggle in use unless the wind is varying direction greatly or you are in lighter winds and in pedal-assisted sailing mode. That's when it gets noisy for me and after a while I may reef up the sail just for the quiet.

Also, just keep an eye on those delrin bearing balls, there shouldn't be enough gap to fit another one, which means you still have the normal set of 24. It is also a good idea to insert a short piece of large diameter pool noodle into the hole for whenever the mast is not installed. No big deal, just prudence to avoid losing balls. |
