I am having issues opening my sail. Once it is about 1/2 unfurled, it sticks. Refuses to open anymore. I have checked everything and all appears to be fine. This is my second/spare AI- the line is free to move on the cleats/pulleys,etc. I have to grab the sail with my hand and give it a little tug- then it opens and furls fine, however when I go to un furl it again- same issue. This is a 2013 AI. Any advice? |

Unless there is a good breeze... having to pull on the clew to open the sail all the way is somewhat normal. May be batten tension too. See if the mast is straight. |

Be careful to check that there isn't anything in the sheet that is hanging on something in the boat. The fact that it does it at the same point may indicate that something is hanging when that amount of sheet is wound onto the furling drum. If you can pull it open by hand on the clew, then you can pull it open with the sheet, unless something on one of the ropes is catching on something on the boat, somewhere. |

It always helps to be abreast of the wind when opening the sail (and facing it when furling). And unfurling the last foot of sail is always a beatch. |

Thanks, Ill take a look at the mast. I haven't had it out yet, just trying to open in the front yard with no wind. |

You know, NOHUHU, I'm not a sailor. So, you are going to have to explain to me the terminology: "abreast of the wind." Do you mean at 90 deg to the wind? Or, heading downwind? Just curious. Keith |

On a reach. Letting the sheet out smoothly. Allowing the wind to do the work for you. |

Vabeach2 when you say batten tension what did you do? Put some more or release some tension? I am having the same problem with my 2007 AI. Thank you |

Yes, I untied/loosened the battens- only needed about 1-2inches of slack. I loosened all of them a little to be safe- I am sure it was probably only one that needed it. It now un-furls easily. |
