I saw that they have chairs for all new models and was told they will not fit in my 10+ yr. old outback. Has anyone successfully completed a retrofit chair/seat on a Hobie outback. If so I would be very interested, I'm tired of the seats that are available and would like a chair type.

Plenty of discussion and a few good ideas have been given. Use the forum search function to see what has been discussed.

Here is one result using "upgrade" and "seat" searching open kayak forums:

I put the Bass Pro Ascend seat in my older Outback and I love it. Seems to be as stable as before.

Here it is on YouTube.

I fitted a Jackson Elite seat to my 2013 outback, best mod I have done by far. I can't think of a reason that it can't be fitted to an older outback. However you do sit higher and loose some stability but I guess it depends on the conditions you use it in as to how important that is. If you PM me your email address I can send you some of my mod photo's (I don't know how to add them here). There might be some changes you will need to make due to hull changes but I don't think that there are too many, but at least you can make a decision.
