Hi Forum

seasons greetings!

Ready to embroil myself into the upgrade T handle modification...(may the Gods be with me!)

If i have an early 2007 model AI will the 2008 upgrade be the correct one?
I downloaded the 2008 instructions and the numbered paras do not correspond to those quoted on the forum.

My up/down tubes are very long and extend well forward of the rear hatch opening. Once I have released the lines from the existing up/downhaul handle I guess I just pull them out the rear hatch in their tubes and snip the tubes with a wide diameter wire stripper just beyond where I think the control line connects to the spectra rudder lines-correct?

My understanding is that there is just one kit now and it includes all that is needed to upgrade the 2007 or 08 AIs.

I would check the forums here for additional tips on the install. Two of the more helpful ones I used when i did my upgrades;

1. Discard the short guide tubes that come with the kit. Reuse the long guide tubes that you remove your AI and cut them with a razor to 18". you Will see the advantage when threading the lines.

2. you can use a drill bit and turn it with you fingers to carve out the ends of the guide tubes to make threading the new lines easier. Don't worry about this tip until you try threading the lines if you need it you will know.

these two tips saved me a tremendous amount of time as I have already upgraded my AIs.

Good Luck!

The main difference in the kits, is the older one includes two new tubes that reduce the water leaking from the lines entering the hull.

I just upgraded my 2007 yesterday and a took several hours but was fairly straight forward. I had printed off the instructions from the Hobie site and there was 22 steps. The kit came with 32 steps in the instructions but it went pretty well. First day on the water tomorrow with the 2007 and the 2008. Winds are up here on Maui, so it will be a wild ride. The one thing that did cause a little trouble is when I dis assembled the rudder I didn't take notice of how the starboard line needed to be re-attached, so take note for reassembly.
