Hi Matt, l see that there have been a few probs with the PA rudder system. We know Hobie is working with torqeedo on elec yaks, is Hobie working on a improved PA rudder system as well? Waiting anxiously for the Hobie elecs to make their debut, CAN'T WAIT!! Jim

The Torqeedo elec motor is shown in our new brochure, but is not officially announced. Check back around October 1st!

The engineers have been testing a larger drum for the steering to reduce the ratio between the handle and the rudder. That is looking really good at smoothing the steering a bit more.

is the larger drum something that can be easily retrofitting to all older PA's? is it something that we would have to buy and change ourselves like the sailing rudder upgrade for other Hobies for instance?

When it is finalized and then produced... The drum would be a free upgrade. Easily installed. This is under the small black plate above the rudder in the aft deck. We have also changed the spectra line to help reduce the "chatter" or "grunting" seen in some systems. Something about the line having a coating or not makes a difference.
