Post subject:  Fly Line Snagging In The PA

While standing and Fly Fishing in my loaner PA last fall I couldn't avoid snagging stripped line on the Mirage Drive. Because I'm constantly moving about to new casting "zones" I'd rather leave the Mirage Drive in place rather than repeatedly removing and replacing it. I tried facing the stern and still found things to wrap my line around such as the steering knob and reels from rods stored in the rod storage tubes. I DO NOT want to wear a stripping basket around my waist! I suppose I can put a dry bag or pillow case over the Mirage drive but there must be a better solution. I thought of mounting one of those retractable car window shades across the mounting rails (with the little suction cups on it) to catch the stripped line but that would make the drive system unusable without retracting the shade. Too picky?? LOL
If anyone has come up with a solution, I'd love to hear it! I can't be the ONLY one with this problem. On the other hand, I could probably manage to find something to snag on if I were casting from a glass bowl. Just another thing I'm trying to resolve before the ice melts here in Michigan.
Thanks!

you can get line trays that attach to your belt, sounds like that may be the type of thing you are looking for!

Thanks for the tip jms2756, I'll look into it. I'm curious to find out if a line tray will hinder peddling. This may be a solution!

Thanks Thaistick-
Do you simply place it over the mirage drive like a sock or do you suspend it horizontally rail to rail?

Thanks for the reply Thaistick. I may have resolved the issue. If not, yours will be the next idea I'll be trying. Somewhere along the line, because I'm a mild hoarder, I ended up with what looks to be either an automobile cargo net or net that keeps pets from entering the driver/ passenger area. It just happens to be the perfect size! I connect two clips to the eyes on either side of center hatch (used for the mirage leash) and the remaining two to the nylon grip tabs attached to the front hatch bungee cord. There's enough slack in the netting that it will easily drape over the mirage drive and likely allow me to peddle without removing the netting. It appears to be a perfect anti-snag solution for my needs. I wish I knew where I got the net so I could pass the info on. I've seen the black cargo netting as a common vehicle accessory but the size is what makes this work so well. I took some photos of it but like others new to the steps of posting them, have not yet figured out how to complete the process. As soon as I do I'll post them for you and all to see and until then I'll try to figure out from whence the net came.
Be well,

Hi thaistick!
I just tried once again to post an image and failed! I'm quite new to computers which adds to the frustration. I measured my bungee/elastic netting and the dimensions are roughly 15" X 34" without being under tension. Those are the "net" dimensions which don't include the bungee extensions at each corner.
I googled "automobile cargo netting" and only found one net similar to the one I'm using. It's available with the 2010 Camero but is WAY overpriced at $50.00. There are many cargo nets out there but the netting isn't dense enough to keep the fly line from finding it's way through. I'll keep searching and let you know if I find anything. Hopefully sometime soon I'll figure out how to post an image.
