I just bought a pro angler and I have an older outback. Does anyone know if the drives are interchangable with the two kayaks. |

The Pro Angler has the newer click-n-go system for locking in the drive. This requires a different drum shaft than what was in older models. It has splines to prohibit rotation of the shaft while pedaling. This became an issue with the C-n-G system. Older shafts would rotate and "walk" the lock lever open. You can update the old drive with the new shaft. You can use the new drive in and older model... no problem. |

Matt, is there an obvious difference in appearance between the two or are the splines internal, I don't recall seeing splines on my PA drive? |

The obvious difference is the beveled ends on the splined shaft version. The splines themselves should not be visible. Note there are a few early splined shafts (from early 2009 I believe) without the beveled ends -- you can't tell without sliding them partway out, or gripping them with padded pliers and trying to twist them. Here's a look at all three together (top to bottom -- non splined, early splined and current splined): But generally if it has a rounded end, it's not splined. |
