Hello everyone. I'm new to the Hobie family.

I will be getting a couple of Pro Anglers soon and have a question or two.

I have a 2010 Toyota Sequoia... a full sized SUV.
Is it possible to carry two Pro Anglers on the roof?
Are there special Roof Racks made to accomodate two units?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I see a trailer in your future! I don't really know. It might be doable.

I think so too. Thanks.

Hopefully some one else has carried to atop their SUV and can share some hints on how it's done.

Don't see you being happy with that arrangement at all. Start saving for a trailer, quick. I might suggest the Trail-X. The SU350 will carry them. I'm using it with an Outback and Pro Angler. Of course you can always go with the knock apart trailer that Northern or someone else sells. A little modifying and you'll be able to get them loaded fairly easy. Good luck.

I'm really starting to think that that's what will be needed. Thanks for the input.

IllinoisOutdoors,
I don't think it's gonna happen. I have a Chevy 1/2 ton Silverado with a cap. Same size as Chevy Tahoe overall. I'd be real lucky to get a PA and an Outback or Revoulution on without 72" crossbars on my Yakima rack. I think everyone else is right on with the "trailer in your future bit." :)

Thanks. I've already hinted that to my bride. She just shrugged her shoulders and said if that's what you have to do, go ahead and do it.
I'm going to have to start looking for a trailer. If I remember looking at the Hobie site, I think they have one. I have to look around to find it again and get some prices. Thanks for your reply.

You might try one of the cheapies from Chicago Tools or one of those places. Northern Tools. I've see some of them doing a good job. Easily converted to carry a couple yaks and no real load for them. You don't really get the trailer in the water so rusting it out quickly shouldn't be an issue. I've got the SU350 Trail-x and it's fine but requires extra cradles for the PA. I just got the cradles and now have to figure out a good way to mount them on the Trail-x. Good luck. Couple hundred bucks should have you in a small trailer. Might be necessary to lengthen the tongue. Doable.

the great thing about the trailer for a PA is that you can back right into the water and off load the PA like a boat........the less you have to lift the PA the better off you will be since the PA is 100+ lbs. empty!
I carry a PA and a Outback on a post WWll 1/4 ton Bantam "Jeep" trailer. I have since added a third support in the middle of the trailer to spread the load of two yaks carried on it.

I can see a small flatbed trailer can work with some Jerry Rigging. Stack em up. Thanks.

That's a Jon boat trailer that I modified to fit my needs. With a set Of PA cradles on the top carrying two would be no issue at all.

I like the way your trailer is set up SS. Can I ask a few questions?

What material did you use for the racks?
How did you secure the racks to the trailer bed?

Same questions to you atavuss....

I'm thinking that rails for both PAs high enough off the bed of the trialer and between the two would relieve me from having to take the paddle system out right? Or do your all recommend removing them for each trailering?

I'm getting pumped. Picking up PA#1 tomorrow in Boulder Junction and will be fishing out of it on Big Kitten and Wildcat Lakes.

Thanks for the help guys.

I used 1 1/2 inch steel square tubing picked up from my local steel mart. I have about a 20 year old welder that I fixed the plug on and fired up. Haven't welded in about 10-12 years but it comes back pretty quickly. For the bottom deck I used pressure treated 2x6's and then used a compression mat as padding. The mat is what you can buy from any sporting good store to pad your work out room floor. It didn't take long to put together once I actually had the time. I don't reccomend just using bolts even if it's with lock nuts. Bolts twist and flex and can shear easier than a weld.

Oh and I don't think you'll ever find a factory roof rack that can hold the close to 250 pounds of 2 Pro Anglers...
