It's personal preference really. I prefer RAM mounts for the adjustability and while Lowrance makes a good product, customer service after the sale is terrible.

RAM and Scotty both make quality products, so you can't go wrong with either. Personally, I like the RAM "revolution" holders (#72023013 in the Hobie catalog) as they are infinately adjustable. They'll work even better with a little tweaking. You will want to saw the ends off of the tubes before using as they are too short otherwise. It also helps to rough up the ball a bit, as a big fish can flatten them down. Always leash your rods anyway, just in case.
As for the Lowrance, they also make great products. I own one myself. While I have never had to use their customer service, I have also heard that it's pretty poor.
