I was wanting to see if anyone knows the speed difference between the outback and the pro angler (both with turbo fins). I have had used my outback for about 4 years and love it but the storage on the pro angler has me looking. I have tested the the revo against the outback and have found almost no difference (thinking the revo would be faster since it is a 1'5" longer and only 28.5" width). I have tested the PA and found that the first few kicks are slower but top end did'nt seem to be much slower than my outback.

I can only tell you that with the standard Turbo fins, the Outback is no faster than the Pro Angler with the ST Turbo Fins.

I would think that if you added the ST Turbo fins to the Outback, you would gain a little bit.

My Revolution, with the ST Turbo fins, will do 7MPH in a sprint. No way either my Outback nor Pro Angler can do that, regardless of what fins I put on them.

just wanted to know if anyone has had the outback side by side with the pro angler to see if there is much difference in speed with the same amount of effort

For me with Turbofins and relatively flat water, the Revo 13 has a "fast" (one hour) cruise of about 5.05 MPH+/-; The Outback and PA both log in at about 4.8 MPH. You can use these figures for relative comparisons.

More specifically (using constant power from the Torqeedo electric drive), the Outback builds about .5 MPH speed advantage at about 4 MPH, but the difference mostly disappears by about 5 MPH when the Outback is starting to push a lot of water. At about 3 MPH (where most people cruise) there is approximately a difference of .2 MPH difference in favor of the Outback. Weather conditions can change the picture though.

Actual performance is affected by wind and chop, Drive condition/tuning, and seating position, not to mention individual differences. 8)

I can tell you that the Pro Angler is fast enough. I have a 42lb thrush trolling motor on my PA and my buddy also has a PA with no trolling motor and he can for the most part keep up with me where ever we go. Kinda shocked me! If I use the fins and the motor together he cant even come close to keeping up with me.

With having so much storage aboard this battleship...one tends to use it...with that being said, even with all the extra weight, the PA moves along at a pretty good clip.

My comfort zone is between 4.2-4.5 mph for a good distance. Recently fished a kayak bass tournament with 53 anglers and at days end people were coming up to me and asking how fast I was going when passed them by.

I do not race...but when I have some distance to cover and I want to be the first one to a morning spot...I just have 2 words...see ya! ; )

I have a PA and an OB, with my son in the OB he can pull away from me with ST Turbo fins in both yaks. the PA is no slouch though, I went on a river cruise with at least 20 other yaks all which were paddle yaks and I pulled away from all except one or two with the PA.

Have you tried using the paddle and the turbo fins at the same time to get 7 MPH?? I can get real close with the GPS readout. Not sure how accurate the GPS is??

The GPS should be very accurate - their speeds seem to hold up in court.

My Revolution with the ST Turbo fins will hit an even 7MPH in a sprint - I can only keep it up for maybe a mile at best. I haven't bothered paddling at the same time and doubt it would add anything. In fact, it might disrupt my pedal stroke which has to be pretty strong and consistent to hit that speed.

the Mokelumne in Central California.
If you are a big guy the difference in cockpit room between the PA and OB is like night and day.
