Hi and greetings from Melbourne, Australia :)
A crack developed in the hull of my 2010 PA approx 6 months ago. The crack appeared between the 2 bolts that hold the rudder pulley on the right side of the cockpit. It appears that this point is stressed when raising the rudder, as the plastic flexes slightly.
My dealer removed the pulley, used a heat gun to close the crack, then added 2 large washers underneath the heads of the bolts before reassembling.
Unfortunately the crack had reappeared which is causing me some concern.
Any thoughts on my options for resolving this problem?
Any advice would be gratefully received

Applying too much tension on the up control line... and left that way is the reason for the damage. I would advise just enough tension to raise the rudder and then ease off... possibly release completely when in storage.

Make a small plate from some plastic material a larger rectangle to cover the area. Weld the crack closed. Adhere the plate to the hull with something like 3M 5200. Bolt the plate to the hull at the 4 corners. Re-install the turning block. That should disperse the loads beyond the cracked area.

Wasn't aware of the need to release the rudder in storage :oops:

More of a suggestion than a need.

Most important... no need to pull hard to the up position. Once the rudder is up back off the line tension and cleat.
