I have not done anything about protecting the hull of my Pro 12 yet but I did use Recrepair skid plates on my Outback. Not to difficult to install and have stayed in place during beach launches and landings for the last 6 months.

Go to your local hobby place and get the clear 3M paint gaurd used on fender wells of cars and use it on the keel. A heck of alot cheaper.

I use a hambys keel shield on my bass boat and beach the boat on granite and the ramp all the time. This stuff is about indestructible. I'm sure it will work on a yak.

At $200 for a 5" wide X 6' long strip of Hamby's lite, that is a wee bit rich for a kayak.

Your right. I forgot what I paid for that on my bass boat. I'm not rich anymore. Maybe that do it your self bed liner stuff. You could do the entire hull and sides for like 99 bucks. Costco sells the stuff. But it's permanent, no taking that stuff off.

If your trying to protect the keel of your kayak, you need to check out Marine-Tex. When this stuff dries, it is like steel plate. I have used it on various kayaks for years. Not even the roughest concrete boat ramp can cause damage.

I just got a sample of the Keel Eazy strip for application to the keel of your kayaks. Played with the sample and it was easy to apply and shape with a heat gun. Have just order enough to protect areas of my PA. When I get it I will post pictures.

Plus, the cost was very reasonable

If you want to check out go to Keeleasy.com

Bedliner? How about spray on bedliner? It wont come off but is super tough. I don't know how much weight it adds.

Hey...Heres an idea  ,How about just running a 1" O.D., 3/4" I.D. black vinyl tube the length of the PA on each side, with a piece of rope running through it, that is attached to the front and rear handles. And if you are worried about the tube slipping up and down, you could add a couple clamps evenly spaced along the tube holding it in place along the hull. Also, if you're worried that it might hold water, then just drill some holes in the tube BEFORE installing the rope through it ...I think the biggest advantages though are that its fairly low cost and installs/removes easily and its light weight and strong...Heres a link where you can find it:
