Post subject:  Question: Scotty Mount Rail Adapter for Grab Rail

I purchased Scotty Rail Mount Adapters for my scotty rod holders. I wanted to move them form the mounting boards to the rail. I purchased the Scotty 242 adapters for 7/8 and 1" round bars. When I went to install it it looked like the adapter did not fit. I was unable to get the bar to touch the curved section of the adapter. Did I purchase the wrong size? What is the diameter of the PA Grab Bars?

Outside diameter of the grab bar is 1 1/8". I am having the same problem right now. I can solve the problem with the Gear Trac and Mighty mounts but that will run me about $105. If I can find the right scotty mount I guess I'll be looking at $35. Any help is appreciated.

They are 1.15" in diameter.

Nope, you purchased the right one. Only one far as I know. I took a 4" angle grinder in one hand and the mount in the other hand and whittled away. Took about 10 minutes each before I got 'em to fit. I also had to elongate out the hole a bit too.

Choose where you are putting it wisely. The screws are so tight, they mark up the aluminum on the tube slightly. Not enough to weaken anything, but enough to make your heart sink if you choose later to relocate them. Smaller screws would avoid this I suppose.
I use the extension arms to put the rod holder where I want it. I located the mount just off my elbows; back enough out of the way when I'm not using them, but not so much that I can't adjust while sitting.

You could also try the Scotty 245 as they are 1.25 in diameter.

If I had realized that was available earlier, I would have gone that way. But by the time I found out it existed, I had already bought these and couldn't return them.

I originally bought the 242's too, but I returned them and got the 245's and wrapped a little electical tape to fill out the gap. Too bad you can't return your 242's. That's a bummer.

I am using 4 of these (2 on each rail) on my PA. I had to use a thin 1/8" piece of rubber as a shim to tighten them. No problems after almost 3 years on the PA.

I mounted a 245 on mine this past week ( also with the thin rubber shim) and it has worked like a champ.

Hi all!

I want to mount my Humminbird 385ci DI on the rail using the Scotty 245 mount. I was hoping to use one of the single post mounts like the Scotty #272 or #274.

Has anyone out there used one of these mounts on a 385ci? Humminbird doesn't seem to have the answer and Scotty did not answer my e-mail. Their dealers that sell the mounts were not much help either.

I just want to find the one with the right hole pattern to fit my 385ci DI so I don't order the wrong one. Thanks for any feedback!

What are you using for the shim? I was thinking I could use a piece of old bike innertube or the electrical tape option.

Electrical tape worked for me. Fast, cheap, and easy.

bicycle tubes should be about the right thickness. I had some 1/8" thick rubber laying around so I used that.

Im sure this is way tote of a reply but Lowes has offers a thin rubber type mat in their electrical department that works great...... and if you use the 245 mounts if you insert a piece of PVC in the rod holder and secure with set screw you can regulate how far the bottom of the rod extends toward your seat. Theres a post in here explaining it.
