So I just saw the video about the much anticipated PA 12. There are some cool features built into it. The ff ready is looking great. I also like the flush mount front deck hatch. All in all it looks like a fun boat but I will hold onto my full size battleship.

Overall I think it looks pretty good, cannot wait to try one. I like the look and features of the new seat, and the included wiring and scupper transducer mount are nice, but I prefer another brand.
I was surprised to see that it is only eighteen pounds lighter though. The biggest obstacles for me when I purchased mine were the price and the weight. I'm not sure I would go with the 12 to save such little weight and sacrifice the extra storage, but it depends on what the price is.

One last thing, from the pictures it looks like Hobie has still placed the attachment for the mirage drive so that when you want to hold the fins up, the bungee is right in the way of where you stand! I know this is easy enough to fix on your own, but this tells me Hobie designers need more people that use the product to relay practical information.

looks cool, like the seat and the idea of being FF ready (too bad they pigeonholed themselves with lowrance. I like birds)

that seat needs to find it's way somehow to the original PA's.

I love what they've done with the PA12. I have the PA14 and I'm sure I'll keep it but I'll have a eye out on the PA12. They have to many great options not to be interested in taking her out for a spin. Looks I might be increasing my Hobie collection by one more in the next coming month or so. ;)

I shouldn't second guess any of the design features without actually trying them, but...

The "mid carry handles" are too far back to be much good for mounting any gear and the steering handles would be in the way of anything you did try to mount there.

The armrests on the seat seem nice, but I fear they will be in the way while fishing.

I like everything else. I think this sort of craft is the future of what we consider "fishing kayaks."

I wonder how hard it is to remove the Lowrance wiring, I too prefer another brand.

To retain many of the best features of the PA14 you can only shave so much weight. Otherwise, you're back to a regular type kayak which won't offer the same features. You can't get something for nothing.

Still, the PA12 returns you to what amounts to a "pickup truck" boat. Much more so than the 14 at least.

It'll be interesting to see one in person. I look forward to it.

i dont think there is any wiring. it is just ready for any type of ff/gps its has the mount under the kayak built in and comes with the thru hull fittings. also i like the fact that you can flip the seat up and stand there and that the middle hatch is gone and now is flush, perfect for fly fishing. the seat looks great!

Looks very nice and that seat definitely would look good on the 14.

I am 6 foot 4 inches tall with a 36" inseam so my 14 suits me fine.

:D

I bought my PA14 ('11 model) exactly 17 days ago. Haven't even had it in the water yet while I rig it out. Looking at the new 12-footer, I think I just may have gone with the 14' anyway.

Shorter might even be more difficult to get it atop my Durango's roof racks because of the angle. The 'yak would be darn near vertical with the bow up there first. Plus, I suspect that the internal rod tubes will be shorter. I can't guess if the new seat is better, nor if the either-hand steering is much of a benefit so I'll pass on those.

I share the opinion about the handles being less useful on the 12' and I also prefer a different brand of electronics.
