My exchange Humminbird transducer came in and I just installed it. Took a bit over an hour, including photo setup time. Easy Pleasy. Here's the sequence.

Inside the PA14, before beginning...

I used the rubber gasket to mark out where the big hole will go...

I drilled a small pilot hole, and then took the irrevocable step with a hole saw. No turning back now!

I ran a generous bead of Marine Goop around the transducer and on the outside of the hull, then ran a bead inside the hull where the rubber seal will go. Then I hand tightened the plastic nut from inside...

I finger-smoothed the GOOP on the outside. Here's the transducer from the bottom of the hull. It protrudes 0.2" and is smooth...

I'll clean up the excess GOOP when it dries. That's it! Topside, the install is the well-known Ram wedge mount and 1" ball mount. No need to show that.

Yep...I agree. That took courage. It will be interesting to know how that setup holds up over time and usage.

Steve, I flew 300 combat missions over Cambodia in a Cessna, alone. Trust me, drilling a hole didn't scare me all that much.

After stating that I'm absoultely postive you have the courage. Thanks for your service. I have time airborne over Laos and Cambodia myself flying combat type missions. Welcome to the PA owners fraternity!

It takes real courage to jump out of those things you all flew. :lol: Just jokeing. You all got us there in one piece. My favorite will always be C130 baby. :D Thanks for the ride!!! :mrgreen: On the flip side is that for the DI?

I see you're in central Texas. I've fished Whitney and McQueeny (hope I spelled that right? near Austin) in my 5 years stationed in Texas. I'll bet it's a different experience in a PA versus a bass boat...lol.

I havent got up there yet. My first two weekends I had my son with me, and even though he likes it in the back I am not comfortable taking him on big lakes. Last weekend we had horrible wind. I finally got a couple hours in on sunday night so I hit the same old pond. Looking forward till sat. and going to hit Lake Buchannon for some whites and stripers. Those lakes are north about an hour and half. We have so many here in the highland area. I also have family in the Rockport/ Baycity area. Going there on the 27 to get salt slimed and family reunion. Be sending pics soon. Didnt mean to change the topic, sorry all. Yes you did spell the lakes right.

RR - I am not at all familar with that ducer. Does it fit snugly enough in the PVC tube to prevent water from coming in around it? Looks like the top of the tube is below water level, which could mean...

Jim, the 'ducer itself is mounted inside that tube, completely embedded in epoxy. There's no way in heck any water will get through the transducer. The only possibility of a leak is around the outer tube, and that is now sealed with GOOP and a rubber washer. I'm going to put it in the water today, and I'll report back.

It'll be fine. I have a kayak (Mokai) with internal ribbing which requires about a dozen or more fittings through the bottom of the hull. They are sealed with tiny o-rings. Never have I taken any water inside the hull.

The GOOP is double insurance. I'd be shocked if it were to ever leak.
