Shortly after taking possession of my PA, I sold my Humminbird 385ci. That same day I found a great deal on a Humminbird 898c SI on Kijiji Toronto. Yes, it's overkill I'll admit it, but the deal was too good to pass up as I really wanted to use side imaging this year. I decided to use RAM Mounts for both the display and the transducer arm as they have a little give if you accidentally hit them. I used a 1" ball with a 6" extension for the arm, and a 1 1/2 ball mount for the display. By using something that is adjustable I'm able to lower the transducer below the hull to avoid interference from the fins. As the transducer needed to be mounted externally, I chose to mount it beside me in case I need to clean it from weeds, or move it when going into the shallows. I made the arm from 2" aluminum flatbar. After cutting the end and bending it to mount the transducer to, I coated both ends in Plastidip. To keep the transducer cable under control and to keep it from vibrating, I heatshrunk it to the bar. As for the GPS puck, after consulting with Humminbird, they agreed that mounting inside a plastic hull should still allow it to function. After coring out some closed cell foam, it gets pressure mounted above the rod holders. The final product... Cheers |

outstanding! have you tried the system in the water yet? you can also add weathersense to that FF, I added it to my side scan Humminbird (it was a free upgrade at the time I bought mine). |

Thanks guys! Below are a couple more pics. I built this support bar as there was a lot of side to side wiggle due to the weight of the 898. This helps it, but doesn't get rid of it all, you never will. This may not even be a factor on the water either. Just finished the foam battery mount. I used closed foam and glued it together with Marine Goop. I'll post up a pic of the hold down strap after it dries. I'm waiting for new GPS puck to show up, so I haven't had it out yet. I can't wait though. I hadn't really though of building these for others. PM me what you might like. By shipping it to the U.S. may incur some duty and taxes, but let's see what you would like. The only thing is that if you like the Plastidip look, I have to find someone here in Toronto who sells the spray can version, I'm not a huge fan of the dipping method. |

That is a beautiful job on that transducer mount. Is the transducer far enough in the water to allow the side scan feature work properly on the port side of the PA? I've been hesitant to want to try this but if it works for you and you like it, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for you help, Iceflyer |

Right now the RAM Extension is almost vertical, and as this sits now, it is level with the bottom of the boat and would be a couple inches below the waterline. When it gets extended horizontally, it will be about 6" lower than the bottom of the boat. I'll let you know if the side scan clears the turbo fins. |

I'm having a tough time deciding between the 12 and the 14 PA. I love the through hull feature of the 12 but I'm partial to Hummingbird. Hmmmmm, what to do? |

I heard you are limited in the size of transducer it will accept. The 898 transducer is huge compared to my 385ci |

Thrashie wrote: you can use a humminbird in the 12's transducer slot. Does anyone from Hobie know if you can use a Humminbird 798 in the PA 12? What about their 800 series and up? Thanks for you help. |
