Hello fellow PA devotees:

I guess I put the cart before the horse - my new 2012 PA is being delivered on Friday. Great news! Unfortunately, I haven't worked out the roof rack details yet. Not so great!

Anyone have any advice for a suitably strong roof rack system (manufacturer and model + accessories) to carry a Pro Angler atop a 1996 Saab 900S (4door with hatch)?

I have it in mind that I would like to transport my PA top side facing down (mid ship pull bars facing my roof). Anyone else transporting their rig this way?

Hobie rep. suggested a trailer, but I'm still leaning towards a roof rack setup. Cost and storage are big factors. I've looked at stock Thule and Yakima base rack setups with the Outrigger ll and Boatloader load assisting pull out bars respectively. I even found an Australian company --Rack & Roll -- that has a robust ad on load assisting bar and support leg setup (see http://www.rackandroll.net.au/).

Any suggestions (and roof rack pics) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
BF

Here are some old pictures of my pro angler on a Prius. I've had it like this working fine for two years, though I added cheap cradles. I keep the boat right side up. I bought a cheap steel bar with U bolts that I screw on and off after each trip. This allows a one person operation. The bar plus bolts cost less than $5.

Thanks for the feedback regarding putting your PA on the Prius, much appreciated!

I ended up going with a pair of padded Thule cross bars, and the Thule Outrigger ll extension bar for laoding my PA. So far so good.
