Ok so i got the lowrance hds5 gen2 today and all i can say is WOW!! just playing with the features and settings has me really excited. I will share my install pics as i go.

Tonights progress was mounting the unit and running/securing the power cable and test for operation.

First i started off with a female scotty flush deck mount and a scotty swivel base. Flush mount was already installed and i riveted the cradle to the scotty swivel base.

Next step was to mount the head unit and run power wires. I will have more pics as i go tomorrow.

The routed power wire with fuse block. Nice and clean. Fastened up high just in case of leakage.

Thats all i have for tonight. I will have more pics of the transducer installation as well as the bulkhead fittings installation tomorrow...

I didnt even hear my phone ring. Woke up at 930 and saw that everyone blew up my phone. I needed the sleep anyway. Work has been running me hard.

Anyway, transducer cable has been ran and all i have left is to install the transducer in the hull. I will use marine goop. I have the foam pad that i got in my hobie fish finder installatiin kit but the new transducer is much larger so it will just be gooped by itself to the hull.

More pics to come...

Ok heres some updates. First the 1" hole that was previously drilled for the wiring had to be trimmed so that the oversized connectors could both fit through.

Its a tight fit but thats great so that water doesnt have a chance to get in easily

Next step is installing the transducer. I prepped the area with sandpaper as well as the transducer, layed down a nice puddle of marine goop and positioned the transducer with tape so that it wont move.

Question. Where do you buy the grommets for the wires coming out the side and up into the starboard? Just bought an mark 4 and thought they came with it but didn't. Tried home depot but the inner diameter is too big on the rubber grommets and will let water in.

Mine was included in the hobie fish finder installation kit. Ill call the store today and see if they know who makes it. The store is called tackle shack.

Ok install is complete. Wires are secured. However i had some problems with the marine goop. At the 20 hour mark there was no bubbles. When i got home from work around the 30 hour mark there was an abundance of air bubbles throughout. I slowly installed the transducer from the backside slowly tilting forward to ensure no air bubbles. Not sure what happened. Something in the curing process??? Not sure. Heres a couple pics. One of the install and one of the bubbles.

I am also interested in the lumbar support. I tried to find it without any luck. Where did you get it from?
